After an exceptional 2015 event, Pyesta Kolon Datal International Folklore Festival is again all set to stage the 2nd CIOFF 2018 International Festival in the City of Koronadal Southern part of the island of Mindanao on August 11 to 18, 2018.
The upcoming festival will once again transform the city into a spectacle of goodwill and a haven of merry-making while keeping the CIOFF tradition of promoting friendship and peace alive - a perfect venue for cultural exchanges to safeguard, promote and enhance the country’s intangible cultural heritage specifically through performances showcasing traditional songs and dances in the country.
Since its creation in 1970, CIOFF works for the safeguarding, preservation and promotion culture. Through its activities, CIOFF aims for the following main objectives:
• Promote the intangible heritage, through forms of expression such as dance, music, games, rituals, customs and other arts.
• Serve the objectives of UNESCO (CIOFF is a partner of UNESCO)
• Support the activities of its members and those of non-governmental organizations working in the areas of folklore and cultural heritage
• Serve the cause of peace and non-violence through the implementation of the above objectives
The main asset of CIOFF organization is the International Folklore Festivals. The conduct of International Folklore Festivals is one of the means to safeguard, to promote, and to diffuse intangible Cultural Heritage, mainly through such genres of expressions as music, dance, games, rituals, customs, know-how of handicraft and other arts. It brings together folk art performers in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere. With their program, the participants will give to the other participants as well as to the larger part of the population and the spectators, an insight in folk traditions of their country, and they will strive for an understanding of the cultural heritage and tradition of other people. It is a meeting place of culture organized in the spirit of friendship and promoting and serving the cause of peace and non-violence through international cultural cooperation.
The City of Koronadal is one with CIOFF in promoting the preservation of cultural identity and serving the cause peace and non-violence. It is one with the people of Region XII and Mindanao in packaging and promoting the place as a tourist destination.
Pyesta Kolon Datal of Koronadal Philippines was awarded the CIOFF Associate Membership certificate, duly received by City Mayor Peter B. Miguel upon the recommendation of the CIOFF Council during the 44th World Congress in October 2014 which paved the way to the staging of a festival with an international scope.
Hosting the 2nd CIOFF 2018 International Festival, the City of Koronadal will be a representative of the peace and friendship that Mindanao offers and what its people continue to work and live for. CIOFF 2018 International Festival in the City of Koronadal will be a testament that will showcase not only culture and the arts from all over the world but the peace and security and opportunities in the region and the island.
Not only will our locales be educated while being entertained with the different cultural heritage but the wide expanse and coverage that a CIOFF International Festival promotion will bring will tell the whole world that the Philippines is definitely one place to go to.
It is, then, very timely that as we continue to promote a peaceful Mindanao, we can do it through the diffusion of cultural heritage through the CIOFF 2018 International Festival in the City of Koronadal.
