Chaplains, partners with the City Gov towards a Values-Driven Koronadal

The city government of Koronadal is partnering with the National Auxiliary Chaplaincy Philippines, Inc. (NACPHIL) Koronadal Chapter for the city-wide implementation of the Character-Building Program to help build a values-driven Koronadal.

“The 8 Core Values is the values of Jesus Christ and this must be centered to every human being towards Christ likeness as Christ in the true owner of the true values”, Rev. Chaplain Jose C. Custorio, NACPHIL City Director said.

28 church leaders attended the first batch of the Eight Core Values Formation. Meanwhile 31 church leaders joined the second batch on August 28, 2019 at Villa Princessita, this city.

“Our goal for the entire community, starting from the grassroots including our public officials is for them to hear and live on these values making Jesus Christ as the center of their homes”, Chaplain Custorio said.

On the other hand, Chaplain Custorio said that it is the role of their organization to train and equip religious leaders to be deployed in their respective barangays and enthusiastically bring the message of the 8 Core Values in their localities.

The then DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo issued a Memorandum Circular No. 2011-58 dated April 25, 2011, addressed all Provincial, City and Municipal leaders, Punong Barangays, DILG Regional Directors, and others concerned agencies to support NACPHIL programs and seminars on Moral Recovery and Values Formation nationwide.

“The barangay with an organized group of Chaplains, will be the first recipient of the program. That is why I am encouraging more Chaplains to take part on this program so we can saturate the 27 barangays. To avoid overlapping, every barangay will form a core group and they will collaborate with the Barangay Captains to gather their constituents in one venue”, Chaplain Custorio said.

In 2008, the City Population Office headed by Ms. Nancy Adalin consulted the multi-sectoral groups to push a local character-building initiative. This resulted in the issuance of Executive Order No. 6 s, 2008 which created a technical working group composed of multi-sectoral representatives tasked to craft the Integrated Character-Building Program. On May 30, 2011, the Facilitators’ Manual on Eight Core Values Formation was launched to aid trainers and facilitators. In Mindanao, only Koronadal has established its guiding eight values and published a module for character building of its constituency.

Meanwhile, NACPHIL as a ministry implements Values Formation and Moral Recovery Program of the Philippine government by rendering pastoral care and assistance especially to the depressed and oppressed.

“In the year 1996, NACPHIL a SEC registered ministry was formed by retired Police Captain, Bishop, Dr. Arturo A. San Juan, our vision keeper. On the other hand, our main concern in line with the mission of the city is to develop our people. With this active collaboration with the government, we hope to produce a values- driven city working towards prosperity, unity and harmony”, Chaplain Custorio said in an interview.
