Cultural Village is Koronadal’s showcase in Thai immersion

The Cultural Village in Barangay Assumption (Bulol) is the City of Koronadal’s showcase destination for the Thailand School Owners English Language and Cultural Immersion on October 23, 2019.

10 school owners, 2 exchanged students and 3 members of the national press will be visiting the city on October 20-26, 2019 for a real cultural immersion travel and language learning.

Located at Barangay Assumption, approximately 8.3 kilometers from the urban center, the cultural village features a tribal house used for leisurely activities like wood carving, basket making and weaving. With the traditional artifacts on display, the village illustrates many facets of the ancient Blaan way of life; social, economic and religious.

To help capture the visitor’s higher sense of purpose, the City of Koronadal Investment and Promotion Center (CKIPC)  together with some members of the Blaan community convened to plan for a 4 to 5 hours set of activities and offerings to deeply mentally engage the visitors to the Blaan culture and tradition.

Meanwhile, the organizers hope to treat the visitors to a culture like no other. With the immersion, the visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the cultural inheritance of the Blaan and their way of preserving their rich heritage.

With about 412 households living in Barangay Assumption, the cultural village features a gallery of Blaan culture showcasing ancient way of living that is still being lived today, customary dances, traditional village set ups demonstrating the old way of life, and rural village community.

Immersive activities and experiences to include the Blaan food, weaving, songs, dance, rituals, demos, language lectures are among the major activities lined-up to create a tangible connection and give the Thai visitors a first-hand experience. Further, the visitors will get to meet real people, and listen to these people telling them about their way of life.

The English Language and Cultural Immersion is a project spearheaded by the Notre Dame of Marbel University in partnership with the City Government of Koronadal and Provincial Tourism Council of South Cotabato.
