Enforce tricycle ban on highways, City DILG told
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered local chief executives to strictly enforce the tricycle ban along national highways.
DILG Memorandum Circular 2020-036 dated February 17 has directed all local government units (LGUs) to strictly implement the banning of tricycles from even crossing or making U-turns along highways.
During the “Talakayan sa City Hall” press conference, City Local Government and Operations Officer Jennifer Fernandez said, “regarding the city route plan, there is a committee in charge for the review of the plan. There are considering various schemes as of now”.
Meanwhile, the city government of Koronadal will review, formulate and modify its city route plan and will form a task force who will do the job. Further, it is the role of the task force to rationalize all tricycle routes in enforcing the ban. They are also directed to identify national roads within the jurisdiction of the LGU, and determine the present and proposed routes in view of drafting a tricycle route plan (TRP) within 30 days from the issuance of the memorandum.
When asked by the media on the negative effects of the ban on the possible increase in fare, Fernandez said that the said apprehension of the riding public is one of the priorities of the task force. She said that they will examine the effects of its implementation and put things into balance and will ensure that it will be a win-win solution. When asked on the sustainability of the program as an additional responsibility to the city government, Fernandez said, “This is not an additional responsibility, in fact the MC was released to address the recurring problems. The bottom-line of the latter is to ensure the safety of the riding public and all considerations must be considered in the route plan”.
The compliance with the trike ban is included in President Duterte’s order to clear roads from obstructions.
