Fish hobbyists coming from different places in Region XII and Davao City congregated in the City of Koronadal for a two-day fish show. Hobbyists Carlo Dividor and Glen Fresco both residents of this city organized the said event to let the people know the importance of fish. Dividor said, fish should not only be a home decoration but it should also be displayed to the public. Fish enthusiasts believe that having this at home, it brings not only good luck for life but also serve as a stress reliever.
Meanwhile, there are four (4) species of fish displayed during the exhibit at Rizal Park that include Koi, Betta, Gold and Flower Horn. Among the four (4), two (2) of them particularly the Koi and Betta were displayed not only for public viewing but entries for a contest as well. For the Koi fish, there were 12 entries registered for a competition while another 160 for the Betta genus.
Mr. Vic Ytac, judge for Koi show scrutinized the entries. As a result, declared winners were the following:
Shemigai Award – Glen Fresco
Reserve Grand Champion – Albert Ombid
Grand Champion – Carlo Dividor
Ytac said the basis of judging was based on the finesse of the fish that comprises the smoothness of their body, shinny of scales, deepness of color and the size wherein the criteria were based on the Japanese standard.
On the other hand, for the Betta fish show, it took almost a half-day for the judges to review before the winners are being announced. Niel Adrian hauled the three (3) awards that consist of Best Show, Halfmoon Plakat, and Crown tail. Among other awardees were Hernando Rangag for Halfmoon Award, Alfie Balaring for Double Tail Halfmoon, Wendell Gustillo for Best in Junior size, and Alejandro Dela Cruz, Jr. for Optional Award.
The winners received certificate, plaque and cash prizes. Judges of the said competition were Jansie Uy and Richard Bryce Alegata.
