Hinugyaw Mega Jobs Fair a big success

The city government of Koronadal is proud to share the grand success of the Mega Job Fair held on January 9, 2020 at KCC Mall Convention, City of Koronadal.

Karen Blaze Cordita has been unemployed for more than a year since her graduation. Through the city’s facebook page, she was informed that the City of Koronadal will be holding a jobs fair. After travelling for almost an hour from Tacurong City, she arrived just in time and got the first slot interview with one of the local employers.

Cordita is just one of the hundreds of job hunters from the different parts of Region XII who attended the said event. Cordita said that without the Jobs Fair, she has no idea where to apply. While having a hard time finding job vacancies, she is also overburdened interms of finances. With the Jobs Fair, she was given the opportunity to be gainfully employed in a more convenient way.

More or less 800 jobs seekers were accommodated by the 20 overseas placement agencies and 30 local employers. 32 applicants were hired on-the-spot and hundreds were qualified and all are subjected for final interview. Also, PESO Manager Bernard Taperla said in an interview that more applicants are expected to be hired after a series of interviews by the local employers and once the recruitment agencies and employers completed the assessment and processing of application and other documents submitted to them.

In collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment XII, Office of the ABC President and 2nd District of South Cotabato Congressional Office, the activity opened with a program and succession of talks. Deputy Speaker for Mindanao and 2nd District Congressman Ferdinand L. Hernandez graced the occasion. In his speech, he conveyed his earnest desire for the government to intensify its efforts in augmenting workers’ income while increasing the demand for employment in the Province of South Cotabato.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nora Braganza, President of ANZAEPP and lead conveyor of ABROAD conducted a Safe Migration Seminar to protect the interest of the OFWs.

On the other hand, PESO Manager Taperla said that the PESO Office is planning to conduct a Special Recruitment Activity (SRA) or mini jobs fair in the 27 barangays in the days to come. Also, part of their office future plans is to conduct a Local Recruitment Activity (LRA), Career Coaching for Technical-Vocational and the establishment of Labor Market Information.

The Mega Jobs Fair is spearheaded by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in line with the celebration of the 80th Foundation Anniversary and Hinugyaw Festival 2020.
