Koronadal City govt honors PWDs

More than 100 Persons with Disability (PWDs) joined the city government in the celebration of the International Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Day on December 3, 2019 at Barangay Zone IV Gym.

The annual celebration aims to recognize the vital role of the PWDs in nation-building and their contribution to the society.

This year’s theme, “Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda”, focuses on the empowerment of persons with disabilities for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development.

In his message, city Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena reaffirmed the government assurance in protecting the rights and promoting the economic empowerment of persons with disability. The Mayor made a commitment to fund the livelihood assistance program for PWDs and he encouraged them to strengthen their organized group.

On the other hand, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Haydee Anunciado said in an interview that Involving this vulnerable sector will be a leap of opportunity for them to get out from their homes and be given their right to participation in collaboration with the barangay councils for transportation assistance.

Meanwhile, Marjorie C. Casabuena, President of the regional federation of PWDs said in an interview that as a leader, it is her aspiration that all PWDs will unite to advance disability benefit reforms especially in the provision of disability friendly facility.

This year’s activities include a showcase of talents and skills and election of the new federation officers of the PWDs represented by the officers of the organized groups in the 27 barangays.
