According to PMDT Physician Dr. Stephen Mortera, their office had made strategies to expand the campaign against tuberculosis (TB). The said campaign was made through Integrated Directly Observed Treatment (iDOTS)- a short course program at barangay level to train the barangay health workers (BHWs).
The iDOTS is just one of the strategies and initiatives of city health wherein the government services and programs regarding TB has been placed in the barangay to be closer to the patients and make them easier to take their medicine. The said program was started at the barangay year 2018.
On the other hand, Francisca M. Dela Cruz, R.N. was overwhelmed as her effort was recognized and appreciated by KCHO. Dela Cruz, is a nurse clinic of KCHO that focuses on Programatic Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (PMDT) treatment center.
To date, nine (9) Multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDRTB) patients continue to be treated by PMDT from 21 patients last year. Meanwhile, five (5) of them were completely cured.
Dr. Mortera highlighted that the accomplishments and success of the KCHO-PMDT/DOTS treatment center is the result of the integrated efforts and hard work of the medical staff from KCHO along with the invaluable support of the Local Government Unit (LGU) and private partners.
