Local barangay officials and representatives from other concerned agencies in the city had organized an orientation on barangay anti-drug clearing program and the strengthening of the roles of local government officials as part of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) held on August 22 at Villa Princessita in Koronadal City.
The objective of the said orientation seminar is to eradicate the proliferation of illegal drugs by solidifying the city, municipality, local government officials, especially the BADACs.
City Local Government Operations Officer (CLGOO) Jennifer C. Fernandez stressed the important role of the barangays as purveyors in addressing the use and sale of illegal drugs in their areas of jurisdiction.
Among the topics discussed are pertinent on the powers and functions of BADAC to plan strategies and implement programs and projects such as conducting monthly meetings, implementation of drug abuse prevention in the barangay, establishment of the BADAC auxiliary team as well as on their roles and functions in the campaign against street-illegal drug trade through seminars and trainings.
Moreover, CLGOO Fernandez added that BADAC are expected to coordinate and collaborate with City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) and other government bodies like the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
BADAC is the grassroot program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to all barangay officials as the first line of defense in addressing and countering illegal drug problem in the community level.
