LGU converts donated container vans into isolation facilities

December 2, 2020

To help the local government augment the existing healthcare facilities, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has granted a P23-M COVID-19 isolation facility under the Bayanihan Grant that will be built at the back of the New City Hall.

According to the project brief, the mobile health facility will be constructed with two (2) units of converted shipping containers that can accommodate 32 patients for isolation and treatment.

Based on the DPWH design, each 40-footer container van is divided into four rooms equipped with beds, air condition units and clean comfort rooms. Another 20-footer container is converted to serve as the nurses’ station with a utility and storage room.

The prototype health facility will help timely isolate the COVID-19 patients that come up as the city government intensify its contact tracing efforts, and free up the hospitals to take care of the critical cases.

Meanwhile, the said office is currently waiting for the two resolutions from the local government, (1) authorizing the Local Chief Executive to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement and (2) allocating a 1,500 sqm lot for the said isolation facility before the official turnover of the project.

The construction of the additional health facility is expected to begin in January 2021.
