“We’ll make sure that there is no Covid-19 local transmission in the City of Koronadal nor no one will lose a life due to the said virus,” Mayor Eliordo Ogena said in a press conference.

The chief executive reminded the public not to get panicked over the news that has circulated on social media about an alleged community transmission after a suspected seafarer found out to be Covid-19 positive even though the patient has no travel history in areas with high Covid-19 cases.

As the leader of the city, Ogena assured the people that he’s on top of the situation working together with the medical experts who are focused on combating the Covid-19 pandemic. With the enormous challenges brought by this life-threatening health crisis, he has to balance the situation by imposing strict health protocols and at the same time not to jeopardize the economic activities which were already restarted. The mayor continues to appeal for cooperation among all sectors as the city has been trying to ease the burden of the national government.

On the other hand, OIC-City Health Officer (CHO) Dr. Edito Vego has appealed to the public to stay calm and remain informed of the current situation after having a patient who turned out Covid-19 positive. Vego assured that the said patient is well attended in the isolation facility and employed proper coordination with the individuals whom the latter had closely contacted.

On the issue of local transmission, Vego refused to confirm but did not rule out its possibility. The health official said that they are still waiting for the result of the investigation as a basis whether it is a local transmission or not.
